Are there various methods of decision making?Sure:
- Through consensus,
- Through discussion,
- Through autocracy,
- Through democracy,
- Through expert (internal/external), & maybe a few more.
All these can be broadly summed up as Singular orPlural.Theoretically ideal is the latter one, but in a nut shell practically boils down to the “everybody, nobody, anybody, somebody” story. The practical best method of decision making, obviously is singular. When it is singular through expert then there is no question, else the question is singular, how?
MFH calls this as “SINGULAR INCLUSIVE” method of decision making. Simply put, the steps defined (only guidelines & not rules) are:
- Locate a suitable person for the job.
- Nominate & declare the person responsible & accountable for the decision.
- The person has to study & collect as much knowledge as possible.
- The person has to talk, discuss & take views of all members concerned individually.
- The person should (may) take joint meetings of “only directly concerned”.
- The person has to be associated from beginning to the end of the process.
- The person is responsible for communicating the decision to all “concerned”.
- The person is responsible to keep notes on the process and follow-up to validate the effectiveness of the decision.
- The person is authorized to re-consider, if required.
