Self Bench Marking Process

In short it is an attempt to “going back to basics”. Management from Heart (MFH) believes that:

Normally in industry we compare ourself with industry bench-marks. This process is mostly self-depreciating and demoralizing. Further, it is inadequate as every industry has its own limitations and salient points. Apple-to-apple comparisons are practically not possible and so the process has fairly limited application. There is another limitation, it adds complacency to existing front runners.

Bench-marking is a very useful tool for progress. MFH – system involves self-benchmarking. In thissystem we have to:

  1. Identify critical control steps.
  2. Collect data on our best performance of these control steps on hour, batch, dayand month basis.
  3. Collate the data to achievable best performance.
  4. Make this as the bench-mark for next period (month, quarter, half-yearly or annual).
  5. Re-work the total exercise after the set period.
  6. Revise the bench-mark.
  7.

This process boosts the morale of the team and often results in surpassing expectations and so-called industry bench-marks.
